West Caicos Beach All to Ourselves

Shadow dancing on a deserted West Caicos beach

About two weeks ago and a smooth, calm sea found us heading for West Caicos. The boys dropped us off and left us to do a spot of fishing. It was an incredible sight to see this long stretch of deserted beach that had become much wider as Hurricane Irene swept in tons of sand. It was low tide and the water was shallow for a ways out. The waves had created ripples and sand bars and pools of water with shells and interesting bits of debris. We had the beach to ourselves with only a few pelicans that swooped in occasionally to land and shared it only with the pelicans as they dive bombed for fish. What glorious entertainment for the afternoon!

The husbands head off for some fishing and look at those ripples and as a small sand bar forms

Sand ripples formed by the wave action made for interesting patterns in the sand

There were so many bird tracks along the ripples of sand and I was fascinated with all the patterns.

A beautiful shell lies in one of the ripplesand there were lots of bird tracks in the sand

The brown pelicans were amusing to watch and photograph but were a little leery of my presence

Probably one of my favorite shells, the sunrise tellin shell lying at the edge of the water, made for a beautiful photo.

Me and my shadow, strolling down a beach avenue!! Just me and my shadow, all alone and feelin' good!!

What a glorious day and a wonderful afternoon. We’re going to return to West Caicos as soon as the weather clears………GO AWAY MARIA!!!!

Sapodilla Beach

A red Flamboyant tree (Royal Poinciana) was ablaze with firey red orange blossoms and made a showy foreground for this photo taken with Sapodilla beach in the background.

The Royal Poinciana tree is flowering right now. It has bright red showy flowers that make this tree stand out. Take a look in the Bight as there's quite a few of them there.

My gorgeous daughter posed patiently while I took many photos......thanks babes!

Sunshine and Shallow Seas

Yet once again, we lazed the afternoon away in our favourite spot at Taylor Bay.

Yet once again, we lazed the afternoon away in our favourite spot at Taylor Bay.

We never get tired of lying in the shallow waters of Taylor Bay watching the rippling sand under the water as the sun dances and glints over the surface of the ocean.

We were joined by three vacationers who had put their beach chairs way out in six inches of water.....our boat was anchored only in about two feet

Blissful Beach of Our Own

Anchored off our own private beach......a blissful weekend with two days of soaking up the sun and this beautiful little beach.

Anchored off our own private beach......a blissful weekend with two days of soaking up the sun and this beautiful little beach.

It’s been very rough these past few days on both sides of the island. We decided to head out and just stop off at little Bay Cay. So two days in a row, both Saturday and Sunday were spent enjoying the warm water out of the wind, picnic lunches and cold drinks……..yes, you guessed it….lots of beer!

The water was calm as the island blocked the strong wind that was blowing.

Fool’s Regatta 2011

What a great day we had at the annual Fool's Regatta held at the Children's Park in the Bight today.

What a great day we had at the annual Fool's Regatta held at the Children's Park in the Bight today.

We were a bit late today getting down to the Regatta as we had guests checking out and coming in. What a great afternoon on the beach watching all the hobie cat races, the Caicos Sloops and tug-o-war events, lots of food, drinks, music and raffle sale for all kinds of prizes . All the proceeds went towards the Provo Sailing Club kids sailing programme. The event was held down in the Children’s Park at the Bight and the beach was filled with people, locals and visitors having a fun time.

Mike, Barry and Mr. H in his distinctive sailing attire enjoyed the afternoon.

Thanks Dave, to you and all your helpers and workers for another successful, fun filled regatta. We’ll all be there next year and WE CAN’T WAIT!

A Beach of Our Own

A little beach all to ourselves on a pre Mother's Day cruise on Saturday afternoon.

A little beach all to ourselves on a pre Mother's Day cruise on Saturday afternoon.

A bit of a late start but we headed out of our little Marina at Harbour Club Villas to our own little piece of beach paradise shared only with the local “introduced”  iguana population (I saw two) and a cruising sting ray.

We moored the boat right off the little beach on Bay Cay

We decided to celebrate Mother’s Day a day early. The water was warm as I headed down the beach through the water to explore the rocks at the far end. The reflections were great and I came up with this photo of the boat moored in some pretty shallow waters right off the beach.

Play time on our own beach as I scrambled over the rocks taking photos.

The rock iguanas were too fast for me today!  You can see Five Cays on the horizon looking towards the Shipyards and Sapodilla Bay beyond.

A surprise visitor cruised by between the two guys and close to the boat.

A friendly Stingray cruised along in the shallows, came right between the guys. Luckily I was on the boat at the time and managed to get a few photos.

Shows you how close to the boat it came and really close to the boys.

The joy of afternoons like this one……….idyllic tropic scenery, good friends, a beer or two, or three or more, playtime on a deserted little beach, calm waters and soft sand, always hundreds of things to photograph and of course celebrating Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
