Today I experience a bit of Bonefish Heaven out on the flats by Pine Cay.
What an unbelieveable day we had out on the flats with our guide Darin Bain of D and B Tours. He ordered up this spectacular flat calm day with clear see through water and those reflections! We headed off towards Pine Cay and it didn’t take Capt. Darin long to sight the fish.

Joe got busy and caught his first bonefish of the day.........a beauty!
We couldn’t have picked a better day and I was just along to take the photographs. I’m not sure how many cards I filled or batteries but I made sure I wouldn’t run out. The colours of the ocean, the flats, the bonefish and the reflections in the water were all breathtaking. I don’t fish but found the whole experience exciting and exhilarating.

Joe releases a good sized bonefish one of many caught this day.
I think Joe hooked up at least 13 or so and landed some six. At one point when I was shooting from the water, he saw a hundred or so coming towards me from behind. What a sight to see!

Fish On...........Joe catches another one and check out the reflections in the water.
Capt Darin has been fishing the Caicos Flats for over 10 years and he really knows the area like the back of his hand and will put you on the fish. His eagle eyes can see them when no one else can…..I was hopeless at seeing them but then I was too busy with the camera.

Joe smiles from ear to ear.......another bonefish. They're called "the ghosts of the flats"
Joe and Christen are honeymooning at Harbour Club Villas and Joe is a photo journalist with Field and Stream Magazine. This is his first time fishing for bonefish and I think we have him convinced that the Turks and Caicos Islands is the place for bonefishing.

Bonefishing is GREAT in the Turks and Caicos Islands
A perfect day! All you bonefishermen out there just have to head down to Provo and I’ll hook you up with Darin for a trip out onto the flats. Call me and I’ll arrange everything for you.
Tight Lines!

Flamingo Lake was at its stunning best today .... flat calm with a mirror image reflection.
I glanced out at the lake late this afternoon and the reflections in the calm waters took my breath away. I grabbed my camera and didn’t even have a chance to tell Barry where I was going. The ripples and the colours kept changing as the sun started to sink over the hill to the right of our villas at Harbour Club.

The sun started to set and tinged everything with an orangey glow
As I walked along the road the water was churning………….”nervous water” as the fishermen call it. The bonefish were tailing and rippling up the calm on Flamingo Lake.

The bonefish were tailing and rippling the surface of Flamingo Lake
In the foreground of the photo you can see all the circles and ripples created by tailing bonefish.

I zoomed in on this photo which does show a definite bonefish shape.
For all you bonefishing enthusiasts out there, fishing would have been great this evening. Our guests at Harbour Club Villas can just walk across the road and into the lake. We see bonefish tailing all the time and you can watch from your villa windows.
Bonefishing is great in the lakes by Harbour Club as well as the flats. Come on down and join us.
Tight lines!!

Late afternoon, low tide and a few dark rain clouds create a picturesque view of the south side shallow flats of Providenciales
Come and see us at Harbour Club Villas ……. the south side of Provo where we are is tranquil and beautiful. Shallow flats and a favourite for our bone fishermen.

Wow..........what a beauty. Janet's first bonefish caught out at Bonefish Point on Providenciales
Grinning from ear to ear, one of our guests at Harbour Club Villas shows off her very first bonefish. Apparently it was 20 inches long and weighed 4 lbs 5 ozs. It took out about 120 feet of line on the second run. Janet sighted the bonefish about 30 feet away and cast right infront of it. The fish took the fly gently and made at least six runs. On the last run, the bonefish turned 180 degrees and headed straight towards her. She frantically had to try and wind the line back in so as not to lose the fish.

Catch and release is the name of the game

Now I know why they call bonefish the "silent grey ghost of the flats"
The Turks and Caicos Islands have some of the most spectacular ocean flats where you can wade and bonefish.
See you in the Turks for your next bonefishing vacation.

Can you see the two fishermen?
I took this photo from the boat out at SW Bluff by Osprey Rock looking towards the flats and beaches edged by the shoreline.
This is a favourite area for bonefishing with a vast expanse of flats to wade and fish.
Chrissie and Thane from Florida spent their honeymoon at Harbour Club Villas and here’s their photo of Thane and his bonefish caught right by Osprey Rock.

Nice catch.......bonefish on the line!
Thane and Chrissie were out most of the day enjoying the water, snorkeling, fishing and visiting all our favourite spots and for honeymooners…….this area is just perfect .

Love is in the air at this secluded and picturesque beach.
If you are thinking of a great honeymoon, tropical island paradise, come to Provo in the Turks and Caicos.
Cheers,
Marta

Jane and Jennifer climbed up through the hole in the rock to see the view from the top and the inscriptions.
The pirate’s cave at South West Bluff can be accessed through the water. Jane and Jennifer climbed up the rope ladder into the little cave, through its roof opening, and onto the top of the cliffs where shipwrecked sailors came ashore in the early 1800s. In the rocks ontop of the cliffs there are carvings with the names of the sailors. The wide cove from Osprey Rock to Bonefish Point is a great place for seeing cruising rays, turtles, juvenile sharks, barracudas, crabs and other marine life. This is one of my favourite places to go to by boat or road. It’s a little piece of heaven that often is yours alone to enjoy. As our islands get busier and more known, it will become more difficult to find these treasures!

Inscriptions carved in the rock by shipwrecked sailors
This inscription is found up on the bluff along with others. A newspaper in Nova Scotia indicates that the St.Louis burned on August 30th, 1842, and was lost. She sailed from Boston to New Orleans with some 24 people on board who were rescued by a brig called Impulse. Apparently she also was wrecked on the Caicos Reef on September 3rd, and was still carrying the crew of the St. Louis. There was no loss of life in either incident.
All this history and it all can be seen if you climb up the rope ladder to the top and look down in the rocks.
Happy searching the next time you’re at South West Bluff.

Bonefishing is great on the flats of Providenciales
Here’s a close up of a bonefish. To be honest, we never knew what a bonefish was let alone what it looked like!! Our guest at Harbour Club Villas caught this beauty out on the flats. Flyfishermen will really enjoy wading the flats in search of bonefish. Often you see them tailing in the lake infront of our villas. We’ve had guests run down from the villas, cast and catch them right from the road. Come and enjoy the great bonefishing to be had in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Bonefishing is great in the Turks and Caicos Islands
The south side of Providenciales has endless fishing flats where you can wade and bonefish. Guests have been seeing and catching some pretty big bonefish. It’s all catch and release and pound for pound , these bonefish give fisherman a pretty good fight. If you want to fish and you have family that doesn’t……..no worries as we can send you to some great spots where everyone will be happy. Tight lines!!!

Turks and Caicos Island sunset on the south shore of Provo
Today was a flat calm day and the ocean showed not a ripple. I sent one of our guests to the bonefishing flat in the photo just a short ways down the road from our villas. He spent part of the afternoon wading in search of bonefish. When the sun sets on the south side of Providenciales, it’s a good opportunity for a photo. You have to be on the beach early though as the sun goes down at 5:20 or so. Hope to see you enjoying some of our fabulous sunsets soon.
