Parasailing on Grace Bay
If you're looking for a great view of our beautiful shoreline....take a parasailing flight way up high!
Parasailing is a fun activity for all ages and Provo has a couple of top notch outfits that will take you up as high as 450 feet! What an adrenaline rush to have a bird’s eye view of our island. These photos were taken recently on Grace Bay and I actually didn’t know three people could go up at one time until I saw this group all go up together.
Each flight takes about 15 minutes and the views are simply breathtaking.
Be sure to ask them to dip you in the water a few times!!!!

What a glorious day for a stroll along Grace Bay!

A boy's best friend...........nothing better than a cooling dip in our super clear waters.
I don’t think he wants to let go of the ball. Lots of water fun at Grace Bay beach. The water in the Turks and Caicos Islands is so clear that you simply must see it for yourself. See you in the islands!

Sea Ox Eye Daisy
The Sea Ox Eye Daisy found growing right off the sand among some rocks at Long Bay Beach
I’m just amazed at how many wild flowers I see that are growing here in the islands. Some grow in the most precarious positions just out of pockets of dirt or sand in the rocks. There are two species of Sea Ox Eye Daisy found in The Turks and Caicos Islands. The one above has the official name of Borrichia Frutescens whose succulent leaves are covered in a fine silver fuzz. Until I took a close look at my photos, I didn’t realize there were two species.

This Sea Ox Eye Daisy is named Borrichia Arborescens and has leaves that are a deep green and smooth. These beautiful flowers are used by the locals and brewed into a tea for calming nerves and the stomach. The tea also treats colds, asthma, allergies and food poisoning. You can also eat the leaves in a salad to boost your Vitamin C content.
Watch for these pretty flowers the next time you are out for a walk.

Provo Ponies on the beach
Riding with Provo Ponies out at Long Bay beach
Imagine riding horses along a tropical beach on a perfect day with blue skies and the gorgeous backdrop of the turquoise waters out at Long Bay Beach. We were out for a long walk along the beach a week ago and met this group of horses and riders. Provo Ponies with Camille Slattery will take you for an idyllic ride along this quiet stretch of beach and since it is quite shallow you can take your horse out into the water.

What I find quite unique is that Provo Ponies started as a rescue operation for horses and ponies in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Many of the ponies and horses are from Grand Turk and the original ones were Paso Finos that had come to the TCI from the Dominican Republic and sadly were showing signs of abuse. These fine animals have been given a second chance and are loving their lives now and giving pleasure to so many people coming here to ride on the beaches of Provo.

Smith’s Reef
Looking at Smith's Reef from the shoreline
A sandy path leads through the rocks and into the water. The snorkel trail is a series of reef balls that have tiles with information written on them and they begin in about 6 feet of water. About 20 yards off shore, there’s a small patch reef at about a 12 foot depth.

Smith’s Reef snorkeling
Here's a map of the area at Smith's Reef for all those that love to snorkel
Smith’s Reef is located just outside of the entrance to Turtle Cove Marina on Provo’s north shore. Acess is from along the beach and you will find signs marking the way.
As you walk along the beach you will come across this marker.
Smith’s Reef is a shallow patch reef relatively close to the shore so it is one of the best places for snorkeling and is one of a few options for shore diving. There is an underwater snorkel trail for you to follow with informative tiles attached to reef balls that have descriptions of fish and coral that are most commonly found here.

If you are an avid snorkeler, you’ll love Smith’s Reef. It’s probably one of our best snorkeling areas.

Sea Urchin
A Club or Pencil sea urchin found on the beach
Isn’t this something ! Anna found this sea urchin on the beach and I thought it just had all kinds of encrustations making it look quite unique. However on looking things up, I discovered that this is a Club or Pencil urchin.
