Sandbar at Bonefish Point

A beautiful walk from the little beach by Osprey Rock all the way to Bonefish Point

A high light of any trip out to South West Bluff is the beautiful walk from the beach at Osprey Rock down to Bonefish Point.

Osprey Rock in the distance as we wade through the shallows

A mangrove is salt tolerant and look at the roots.

Miles of beach with only us walking along the shoreline.

Bone fisherman stalking the flats for the elusive bonefish

A Haitien sloop washed up along the shore

Sad to say, we often see these wrecked Haitien sloops carrying probably 100 or more people to what they think will be a better life. Many are caught and repatriated.

Pin cushion sea stars love the sandbar. We found many of them.

That’s an amazing flat but make sure you have your fishing license with you if you plan to fish

Turquoise waters and brilliant white powdery sand

Mr Crabby shows his fighting form.

In search of starfish at the sandbar

A picturesque, dream of a day at Bonefish Point

A perfect afternoon to wade into the water at Bonefish Point

On another rather cloudy day, a storm changed the colours to a soft pastel combination of hues.

These great kids hammed it up for the camera in the shallows of the sandbar.

These great kids hammed it up for the camera in the shallows of the sandbar.

Some local kids were fishing  with one fishing rod and a hand line but I’m not sure that they caught anything other than disturbing a blue crab, a cushion starfish and a conch.

A blue crab wasn't too impressed with facing the camera but he was let go after his modeling debut.

The boys were having fun finding starfish and a conch while their Dad or uncle continued sitting and fishing.

The boys were having fun finding starfish and a conch.

Life is always interesting around the sandbar and on this day I lucked out, smiling kids, someone fishing, finding a small blue crab, a bright orange cushion starfish, a conch and of course, the muted colours of the ocean at low tide and passing storm clouds. Wow! What a spectacular and lovely day.

Turks and Caicos Islands….Open for Business

01hcvIMG_1456 (5)

Harbour Club Villas and Marina has a new look with new, white metal roofs…….Yes we are open for business after Hurricane Irma.

Yes, we can now say that we survived a Category 5 Hurricane!

It has been a chaotic and traumatic time for all of us here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. We were hit hard with damages especially to all the roofs. Our red tiled roofs are no longer, ripped off by the horrific force of the winds and left in piles after Hurricane Irma.

Now some 50 days after, we have new white metal roofs and clean up is almost complete. The Turks and Caicos Islands are open for business and better than ever…….restaurants are opening, dive boats are back in the water, snorkeling is great and we’ve seen so many turtles and our bonefishermen are back in the lake and on the flats, excursions and more.

We are waiting for you so head down for some fun in the sun and on the beach.

A Trip Down Turtle Tail

blogIMG_5044cr

A lone flamingo feeds in the Juba salina just a short ways from Harbour Club Villas

I decided on taking one of our fishing guests down Turtle Tail to see for myself where he could access some flats in order to do some bonefishing.  Must say, this area is still as beautiful as ever but with many newly constructed houses going up.

I haven’t seen the flamingos for quite an age and was excited to see this, lone beauty.

I couldn’t get him to stop feeding and to lift his head up……….too busy “vacuuming” through the silty bottom.

Harbour Club Villas and Marina

Our little piece of paradise overlooking Flamingo Lake and our Marina at Cooper Jack.

Harbour Club Villas and Marina……a gem of a place on the South Side of Provo with Flamingo Lake on one side and our Marina leading out to beautiful Cooper Jack Bay on the other.  It’s a new year and past time to tell you a little about our piece of paradise, our location, surrounding area and all the beautiful out of the way spots and things you will find when staying with us.

A kite cam view of our six rental villas. Thank you to our neighbors Polly and Byron for this sensational photo.

Fifteen years ago, we built six , one bedroom villas overlooking the lake on 2.2 acres in an area that is called Turtle Tail. It is a unique place to call home while visiting Providenciales. A place where you can look out sometimes and see bonefish tailing, watch the hummingbirds, doves, bananaquits and a green heron or two that drops by the pool daily for a drink and squawks at you if you intrude on his space. A walk down into the marina and you are greeted by our neighbour’s two potcakes, Effie and Gemma who love coming by for threats from our guests. Can you believe that our guests actually bring treats, and premium cuts of meat with them to feed these two dogs?

A perfectly still, calm day....we call it a French Cay day.

We are delighted to announce that we have been named a winner of the 2012 Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice Award in the category of Top 25 Hotels for Service in the Caribbean.

Harbour Club's unique location between Flamingo Lake and Cooper Jack Bight on the southern shores of Providenciales

This is an amazing achievement for a small tourist establishment like ours which is basically run by the two of us. I created this blog to highlight the wonders and attractions of our beautiful home islands of the Turks and Caicos and now we have been chosen among the best of the best.

Poolside surrounded by flowers and palm trees in a quiet and tranquil setting

It shows that you don’t have to be BIG or on Grace Bay to be recognized as a great place to book your vacation when visiting Provo. We were voted in at number eleven of the top 25 Hotels of the Caribbean this year and best of all, the award was for exceptional service to our guests. Our guests are all like friends and this award is coming from those who know us best, our travelers and visitors that have posted unbiased reviews of their vacations in our villas and their stays at Harbour Club. Many of our guests are repeat friends now and come back year after year.

The Travelers’ Choice Award given out by Trip Advisor is based on the opinions and reviews of millions of travelers and awarded to only a few, select hotels and establishments. Harbour Club Villas and Marina is now one of these stand out and distinctive properties. A great achievement for such a small vacation villa rental establishment.

Tarpon On the Fly

Wow.........Lenny caught himself a beauty! This tarpon was at least 35 pounds.

Harbour Club Villa guest Lenny Mokan spotted tarpon on his bonefishing trip recently. He wasn’t rigged for tarpon and was broken off twice before rigging a heavier line.

Here's a nice bonefish.........Darin's amazing at spotting and finding fish

The rod bent double and the tarpon performed a great aerial display

Darin holds up the tarpon......what a great fish!

Lenny gently releases his first tarpon all 35 pounds of it!

Way to go Lenny!

Lenny's going to mount the fly when he frames up his best tarpon photo.

Check out Harbour Club Villas’ bonefishing packages and just like Lenny, you too can fish the endless flats off Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Hope to see you soon…the fishing is GREAT.

Times of the Island Bonefishing Honeymoon

The fall issue of Times of the Island has an article on bonefishing.

The fall issue of Times of the Island has an article on bonefishing.

The Fall issue of the Times of the Island is now available with a great article “If You Love Me, Let Me Fish….A newley wed’s quest for Provo bonefish.”

This magazine is always full of interesting and colourful articles and is a great read. We recently had guests at Harbour Club Villas that were on their honeymoon. They picked us as their accommodation on Provo because of the proximity of bonefishing both in the lakes and nearby flats. Joe Cermele is a fishing fanatic and works on the editorial staff of Field and Stream magazine. His beautiful wife Christen, fishes a little and enjoys sitting on the beach.  Joe explains why they picked Harbour Club Villas.  “Fishing is my heroin…….we overlooked the palace resorts of Grace Bay for Barry and Marta Morton’s secluded villas for our Providenciales honeymoon. A co worker told me I could walk out the door and onto the bonefishing flats of the adjacent salt lakes at Harbour Club.”

I'm in the water shooting, Joe has a fish on, Christen has camera ready and Darin our guide guides the boat.

To access the article please go to our website at http://www.bonefishing.tc and read the full story. Joe and Christen enjoyed their bonefishing honeymoon and one of the highlights of their stay was adopting a beautiful little potcake they named Ava.
