Sapodilla beach with boats at anchor on a calm day

Sapodilla Bay is on the south side of Providenciales where visiting boats can clear customs at South Dock and then moor out and enjoy some perfect beach time. The water is shallow for quite a ways out before it deepens.

Lazing around and floating in such clear calm water.

Shooting through the rocks makes for some interesting effects

A sunset beach wedding at Sapodilla..........a beautiful spot to exchange vows.

A footprint left in the sand as the tide starts to come in.

One of my favourite photos with a flowering poinsiana or flamboyant tree framing my daughter and grandbaby.

Providenciales and the Turks and Caicos Islands have some of the worlds best beaches. There are so many of them and we hope on your next visit, you’ll take in some of them to include Sapodilla Bay on the southern shores of Providenciales.

Happy beach days!

Parasailing on Grace Bay

On the way up just off Coral Gardens on Grace Bay

A beautiful day on Grace Bay, the sun was shining, the waters were calm and it was a picture perfect day for a surprise birthday sky high trip. Thanks to Mike for all these great photos.

Toes, boat and ocean give you an idea of high up Mike was flying.

Panoramic view looking towards the DECR building towards Harbour Club Villas on the south shore.

The little blue and white dots are the Provo Sailing Club kids who were all out on their Pico’s just off the Bight Children’s Park. You can see Flamingo Lake and Juba Salina and Bajacu, the house on the hill right by Harbour Club Villas.

Aerial view of Flamingo Lake with Harbour Club Villas.

Grace Bay beach view looking towards the east.

Higher and higher, Mike was way up there.

We have the third largest barrier reef in the world.

Mike’s photo of the reef shows you the deep blue ocean on one side that’s over a thousand feet deep. The lighter turquoise blue is about ten to twenty feet deep and dotted with numerous coral heads that rise to within a few inches of the surface. The reef fringing the Turks and Caicos Islands is the world’s 3rd largest barrier reef. On Providenciales (Provo) the reef protects the North shore and breaks the incoming surf. This creates the calm, turquoise water that fringe our white sand beaches. No surf on this day just a breathtaking bird’s eye view!

Put parasailing on your "must do" list !

Hey! Can you make out that black speck on the sand about a half inch from the first building on the right? Well it’s ME. I had Mike’s phone and was snapping photos of him going up.

Happy landings after an amazing parasail.

Parasailing is one activity to plan for when enjoying the beaches along Grace Bay. The parasail boats pull in at various places along the beach to drop off and pick up guests.

Happy parasailing everyone!

Sunset Swim

Sunset cocktails and beer at Coral Gardens beach after a long, hot day.

Headed off to the beach late in the afternoon a few days ago. It has been hot and no breeze for the last little while. The beach at Coral Gardens was picture perfect, water was phenomenal and the drinks were also very good.

Sea grass washed up on the beach at Coral Gardens

Late afternoon sun rays creating beautiful hilights

Shooting into the sunset gives such a lovely effect.

Wonderful swimming can be enjoyed on Grace Bay. Don’t forget to take in the great snorkeling at the Bight Reef at Coral Gardens too.

Fools Regatta 2012

The kids on their Pico's are dwarfed by the fast sailing Minx as she heads out racing to Pine Cay and back.

The first Fools Regatta was held in 1990 and the Minx was part of that first race so many years ago along with the Beluga. This year’s event brought out crowds of people even though the weather was cloudy and a tropical storm made for an exciting day in more ways than one. This year the sailing club introduced the kids to 12 Laser Picos and these have been ideal for training the islands’ younger sailors.

The Caicos Sloops were all in competition for the Tom Lightbourne trophy

Young Provo Sailing Club member watches the races.

These three little sisters were having a blast playing in the water.

Even some of our four legged friends got in on the water fun

Provo Primary Steel Band provided some lively music...those kids are amazing!

Storm clouds moving in, the water turned choppy and the winds kicked in.

The Beluga and a native Caicos Sloop racing through the waters

Awards ceremony with the lovely young presenter receiving the "fools" cap

Winners in the Caicos Sloop A Class category.....Congratulations!

Capt. Tim of the Beluga wins the Bent Prop award for his mad, heart pounding, wind forced dash towards the beach!

Another Regatta is over and this one will be remembered for it’s hurricane like abrupt end. Nonetheless, we all had a great time. Lots of sailing and racing, fun, laughter and seeing and enjoying friends. Well done everyone and the volunteer effort always amazes me. You are all stars in my book!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.

Beach Sunset

Stunning mackerel sky as the sun hides behind the clouds on Grace Bay beach recently

A sail boat cruises by as the sun sets casting gorgeous orange shimmers on the ocean

What a picturesque evening on the beach drinking Pimm’s in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee recently.

Cheers

Sand Bubbler Crab

Look down and see the amazing art works at your feet

This fascinates me and I’m always looking down as I stroll along our Provo beaches. You’ll see those intricate balls of sand that form some wondrous patterns in the sand. I finally had to look this up and found out that it is all the works of a small crab……the Sand Bubbler Crab.

Sand bubbles created by the Sand Bubbler Crab

At low tide, the sand bubbler crabs emerge from their holes beneath the sand to gather microscopic food that the tide has brought in. They do this by collecting and sifting the sand, actually checking each grain, and rolling those parts that have nothing useful for them into little balls (sand bubbles) that they toss behind.

A little crab emerges from its burrow in the sand at low tide to search for food.

Sand bubbler crabs live in burrows in the sand, where they remain during high tide. When the tide is out, they come out on to the surface of the sand, and scour the sand for food, forming it into inflated pellets, which cover the sand and form some great designs.

Kinda looks like a palm tree to me!

Next time you are wandering on one of our beautiful beaches, take a look and see some of these intricate designs in the sand. A sand bubbler crab artist will be hiding near by just too shy to come out and take a bow!

Horse-Eye Jack’s Bar and Grill

Check out this beautiful lunch spot right on the water in Blue Hills

Finally I made it out to one of my very favorite spots…..a gorgeous deck overlooking the water in Blue Hills. Horse-Eye Jack’s Bar and Grill has re-opened under new ownership and quite honestly, this has to be one of the musts when you come to Provo.

We had a delicious lunch just breathing in the amazing ocean scents and enjoying the colors and view.

How lucky we are to have this on our doorstep........lunch at Horse-Eye Jack's and the Margarita's are great!

Come on out to Horse-Eye Jack’s for lunch or dinner on the water. They open at 11 am so make sure you don’t miss this special island restaurant with the best views on Provo.

See you there soon!
