Turks and Caicos Islands….Open for Business

01hcvIMG_1456 (5)

Harbour Club Villas and Marina has a new look with new, white metal roofs…….Yes we are open for business after Hurricane Irma.

Yes, we can now say that we survived a Category 5 Hurricane!

It has been a chaotic and traumatic time for all of us here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. We were hit hard with damages especially to all the roofs. Our red tiled roofs are no longer, ripped off by the horrific force of the winds and left in piles after Hurricane Irma.

Now some 50 days after, we have new white metal roofs and clean up is almost complete. The Turks and Caicos Islands are open for business and better than ever…….restaurants are opening, dive boats are back in the water, snorkeling is great and we’ve seen so many turtles and our bonefishermen are back in the lake and on the flats, excursions and more.

Grace Bay Beach at the Bight Reef is as beautiful as ever so book your vacations now. This was taken a few days ago

Our beaches are all as stunning as ever with the prettiest sparkling water you’ll ever see. All my photos have been taken recently and quite honestly, if you want beaches that have few people on them, now’s the time to come. We are waiting for you so head down for some fun in the sun and on the beach.

Storm Clouds and Potcakes

Watching the dark clouds roll in over the south west tip of Provo on Sunday afternoon

Watching the dark clouds roll in over the south west tip of Provo on Sunday afternoon

A beautiful Sunday afternoon floating around in Taylor Bay. We watched the very dark clouds gathering and creating a spectacular sky over towards the south west point of the island but nothing to worry about as they appeared to be moving off towards West Caicos.

The water was lovely and warm and look at that backdrop.......spectacular!

Minnie Meow

This sweet little kitten was found meowing beside one of our villas at Harbour Club today.

This sweet little kitten was found meowing beside one of our villas at Harbour Club today.

Our guests at Harbour Club Villas found a little kitten today in the bushes by their villa. It was soooo cute but very thin, just skin and bones and starving. The girls rushed to get the kitten some water, steak and cat treats that had been left behind by previous guests.

She was quite content to be held but constantly squirming and moving.

Once Taylor and Danielle started feeding her, she became more lively. Poor little thing was so very hungry.

I called Jane at Potcake Place who said I should call Susan at the TCSPCA or Donna at Pampered Paws. I managed to speak with Donna and we drove over to give her the little kitten. She’s much in need of a bath and a good home. Donna operates Pampered Paws on Providenciales and is often called upon to help and shelter these animals.

Christmas Potcake

Here's Ava the potcake pup that was adopted recently by our guests at Harbour Club

Here's Ava the potcake pup that was adopted recently by our guests at Harbour Club

We received recent photos from Joe and Christen of their little Potcake named Ava that they adopted in November while here on their honeymoon. Jo writes “Ava is an utter joy and we couldn’t be happier with her. She’s the best souvenir I’ve ever brought home from a trip.  Attached you’ll find some recent photos, including her about to eat a Christmas ball, her donning her fancy jingle-bell collar, and her first romp in the snow (we’re supposed to get 2 feet tonight). EVERYONE loves our dog and she’s as friendly as could be.

Here's Ava with her "jingle bell" collar and just waiting to see what goodies Santa will bring her.

Please, if you are able to help in any way……. contact Jane at Potcake Place, the fine potcake friends at the Turks and Caicos SPCA or call me at 1 8666 456 0210. They are always looking for people to take potcakes to Canada or the USA to join their new “forever” families. Adopt one if you can or make a donation towards the fostering and care of these little puppies. Thanks to Joe and Christen, Ava is one happy puppy who’ll spend her first Christmas surrounded by the warmth and love of her new family.

Potcakes

How could you ever hope to resist loving a sweet potcake puppy with a face like this?????

How could you ever hope to resist loving a sweet potcake puppy with a face like this?????

Recent guests of Harbour Club Villas adopted this sweet little potcake puppy from our Turks and Caicos SPCA. Steve and Andres fell in love with this little one and have named her Tromba which is Spanish for “waterspout”. Potcakes are named after the congealed food that remained in the bottom of the cooking pot after reheating usually peas and rice several times. The scrapings or potcakes were fed to the dogs and hence the dogs have become known as Potcakes. Many of these dogs and puppies are found around the island and the spaying and neutering programs are not keeping up. Many are taken to the TCSPCA and Potcake Place where they are hopefully adopted. They are loving and loyal and perhaps when you visit our islands you might consider adopting one.

Potcakes are loveable and make a great family pet

If you are heading our way and would like more info or would like to adopt a Potcake, just let me know. I’ll put you in touch with all the right people.

See you soon,
