Some days are just breathtaking as you take in the glorious colours of the ocean at Malcolm Roads Beach. It’s always a fun getaway for the day and it’s not likely there will be too many other people out there. Please take an SUV only to get down to this beach safely and with enough clearance too!!

The road out to Malcolm Roads is a little “off road-ish” but the scenery is so spectacular. It’s worth the trip….pack a lunch and a lots of drinks and hopefully we’ll see you there.

The road from the bottom of the hill, heads straight down to a little shelter by the beach.  You’ll be able to see the artificial reef balls placed there several years ago to help reduce beach erosion, make it easy for corals to grow, and also, provide shelter for fish.

We had the beach to ourselves and it simply doesn’t get any better than that.

It doesn’t matter what the weather is like at Malcolm Roads, the colours are always spectacular for photo taking. A passing storm and clouds turned the sea into brilliant shades of blue and turquoise. Dive boats were anchored out at the dive sites and in the foreground, two magnificent Cactus Trees framed my photo.  The Cactus Trees found at Malcolm Roads can reach heights of 12 feet and have a woody trunk. Flowers bloom throughout the year and are a rich red in colour with yellow stamens.

The Cactus Tree or Consolea nashii, ( locally called horse pear) is endemic to the Turks and Caicos Islands and Bahamas.

I can’t emphasize enough that you do need a car to travel to these breathtaking beaches. You will be missing some of the most scenic areas of Provo if you don’t explore this area along with others. There are so many more out of the way beaches and Malcolm Roads is one of my ultimate favourites……….but then I do have many of them!

I’m sure many of the locals and those that have been here for quite a while have seen the natural bridge that appears and disappears depending on the build up of sand. Years ago this was the site of the Tiki Huts right on the rocks out at Malcolm Roads beach.

I had to dig for this one....I sure miss the days of going out to Malcolm Roads when the Tiki Huts were still there.

This old photo shows the one tiki hut that used to sit right out on the rocks with the bridge exposed and in actual fact there were others right infront of the bridge.

This was probably the first time I saw the natural bridge. We had Ania pose under it for a great shot.

I put this photo in because it was taken from the steps leading up to the Amanyara one day after a storm pretty much took out all the sand.

The above photo was taken in early October after hurricane Ike struck the islands. It pretty much took out all the sand and the steps leading down onto the beach were just hanging with a good four foot  drop off.

When our nephew Alexis came to help with clean up after the hurricane, I took him out to see this spectacular beach and the bridge.

Eventually the ocean brings back the sand which accumulates and fills in the little beach found under the rock bridge. Of course visitors wouldn’t know that the sand covers over  the bridge at times.

Those tiki huts bring back such fond memories of “off roading” down that narrow, washed out hill just before getting to Malcolm Roads. The first view of this beach was always awesome in all its’ breathtaking beauty. We’d usually be the only ones there on our ladies day outing complete with cooler jugs of pina coladas and Sweet T’s or Lamont’s chicken!! We’d laze all day out there enjoying the water and of course for me, always such spectacular colours for some great picture taking.
This is a gem of a place! Hope you too may get a chance to see the bridge one day.

Indescribable...........today was simply the most amazing day out at Malcolm Roads beach

Stunning colours today at Malcolm Roads beach where I took my sister Anna and friend Mike…………but really, it is always a photographer’s dream to take photos of the beach and water out here.  Every time I head out to Malcolm Roads, I know the colours are going to be fantastic and today was no exception!

So, all I can say is make a point of heading out to this spectacular and picturesque stretch of beach………..pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the snorkeling as well as a beach with very few people.

North West Point Walk Part 2

We stopped to sit for a while and take in the view of the waves breaking on the shore. You can just make out the Amanyara resort way down at the end of the coastline.

As we walked along the beach towards Malcolm Roads and the Amanyara, I came across something just lying there in the sand. It was an egg and the best I could come up with on the internet was that it looks like a sandpiper egg. This would make sense and most of the birds we saw were Ruddy Turnstones, a common visitor here to the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Once we got onto Malcolm Roads beach we were ready to hit the water. We had such fun riding the waves and playing in the surf.

Island Wedding

Shelley was such a gorgeous bride in her stunning lime green, lace dress with green cymbidium orchids to match.  Shandi didn’t seem too nervous as we headed off on the long drive to Malcolm Roads Beach for the wedding ceremony. This beach wedding in the Turks and Caicos Islands recently was one that I’ll always remember.  It’s the first one that I’ve ever been to where both bride and groom went right into the water in celebration of their marriage.

Providenciales is a wonderful place to have your wedding and honeymoon. Shelley and Shandi stayed at Harbour Club villas for almost three weeks. The first week was spent organizing the details, Pastor Coleby, visiting various beaches in order to choose “their” perfect beach. They wanted a beautiful beach as well as a rocky shoreline to remind them of Nova Scotia, they selected flowers, photographers and other details. I helped them with flowers, a special wedding cake and took hundreds of photos. After the wedding they relaxed and enjoyed a terrific honeymoon at our villas.

What a catch.......a great fight and Barry landed a 30 lb yellow fin tuna

Today Barry headed out for a day of deep sea fishing with some friends. He hooked something off Malcolm Roads beach and it put up a great fight for a good 15 minutes. What a beauty! It was a 30 lb yellow fin tuna. We’re going to invite our villa guests to join us for a tuna steak barbecue tomorrow night and what a feast it will be.
