Sea Urchin

A sea urchin found on the beach still has spines attached and with some neat looking encrustations

A Club or Pencil sea urchin found on the beach

Isn’t this something ! Anna found this sea urchin on the beach and I thought it just had all kinds of encrustations making it look quite unique. However on looking things up, I discovered that this is a Club or Pencil urchin.

See you on the beach,

Marta

Taylor Bay

Sandbar at Taylor Bay......What an incredible sight!

Sandbar at Taylor Bay......What an incredible sight!

We headed again for Taylor Bay today and what a great choice of beach that was. Low tide and the water rippled and shimmered around a small, exposed sandbar. You can see Turtle Rock in the background on the horizon. It just doesn’t get any better than this!  If you have little kids (and even if you don’t) this beach is a must. We love Taylor Bay and perhaps we’ll see you here.

We just had to stop and take photos of this unique conch inlaid island stone wall.

Heading home from the beach along the Lower Bight Road just past King’s Town, we saw this spectacular wall. It was local island stonework topped off with conch shells.
A row of conch adorns the top of the wall surrounding these houses in The Bight

Great afternoon at Taylor Bay today…………the wind was blowing on the North shore so we tucked ourselves away in this idyllic spot. It was hot and the water was very calm. We met these two gentlemen from Quebec………Canadiens eh????? I guess Mom was at home while Dad and friend took the twins for a walk to the beach. Soooooo cute. If you have kids and are planning a trip to the Turks and Caicos, this is where you should bring them as you can walk out for a long ways in inches of water.

See you on the beach soon!

Kite boarding at Malcolm Roads

What a show we enjoyed on the beach at Malcolm Roads.........Mike and a friend were out doing flips and enjoying kiting off the beach at Malcolm Roads

What a show we enjoyed on the beach at Malcolm Roads.........Mike and a friend were out doing flips and enjoying kiting off the beach.

We drove out to Malcolm Roads beach today. It was looking quite miserable but Eve was positive the sun would shine and she’d be able to snorkel. Sure enough, out came the sun and a couple of kite boarders………..Mike Haas who is one of our island kiteboard instructors and a friend.

Mike Haas has been teaching kite boarding on Provo for a number of years now. Head down to the Turks and Caicos soon and learn how to kiteboard!

Not only was watching these guys kiteboard exciting but they also sighted a whale just off shore. No kidding……they were actually kiteboarding  with a 30 foot whale!

Kiteboarders flying high and doing flips and jumps entertained us on the beach today

And so, if you want to holiday in the Turks and Caicos Islands and learn to kiteboard, just drop us a line at Harbour Club Villas and we’ll put you in touch with Mike.

See you soon,

Passionflowers on the beach

Our trip to the beach today was spectacular as I found these beautiful passionflowers growing along the sand dunes.

Our trip to the beach today was spectacular as I found these beautiful passionflowers growing along the sand dunes.

This flower is also called a Wild Apricot and a number of them are found in the Turks and Caicos Islands. I wanted to take some photos of the water through the waving sea oats and discovered passionflower vines blooming, some with pinkish red fruit and the flowers were also a little different. The one shown below had a pale pinkish tinge to the petals.

I’m still looking to find some red passionflowers and also I once saw a deep crimson one. I believe somewhere in my photos I do have pictures so I will look for them and put them up in another post.

The beach for my 60th

Drinks at SOMEWHERE on the beach for my 60th birthday......simply the most spectacular deck overlooking the White House Reef.

Drinks at SOMEWHERE on the beach for my 60th birthday......simply the most spectacular deck overlooking the White House Reef.

My 60th birthday and the three sisters headed for the beach as it was sunny and hot this morning. After basking in the sun, snorkeling and a delicious chicken sandwich snack from SOMEWHERE, we ended the morning with a pina colada and margheritas on the deck. Let me tell you, this spot is a gem, well thought out with high teak chairs and tables set up so that you can see the superb vista of the White House Reef and surrounding turquoise waters.

Imagine yourself sitting here sipping your favourite drink with that gorgeous turquoise ocean as a backdrop. The White House Reef was full of marine fish and Eve also saw a turtle.

I love these tables and chairs and the overall feel of this deck area……….it reminds me of Jimmy’s at the old Island Princess years ago! Some of you may remember back then when we used to go there for breakfast and lunch.

On your next visit to our beautiful island drop by and say Hi to Carmen at SOMEWHERE on the beach…………a new TexMex restaurant and bar right on the beach at the White House Reef. It will become one of your favourite spots with probably the best view on Provo!

See you there!

Cheers…………Marta

Janet’s Bonefish

Wow..........what a beauty. Janet's first bonefish caught out at Bonefish Point on Providenciales

Wow..........what a beauty. Janet's first bonefish caught out at Bonefish Point on Providenciales

Grinning from ear to ear, one of our guests at Harbour Club Villas shows off her very first bonefish. Apparently it was 20 inches long and weighed 4 lbs 5 ozs. It took out about 120 feet of line on the second run. Janet sighted the bonefish about 30 feet away and cast right infront of it. The fish took the fly gently and made at least six runs. On the last run, the bonefish turned 180 degrees and headed straight towards her. She frantically had to try and wind the line back in so as not to lose the fish.

Catch and release id the name of the game

Now I know why they call bonefish the "silent grey ghost of the flats"

The Turks and Caicos Islands have some of the most spectacular ocean flats where you can wade and bonefish.
See you in the Turks for your next bonefishing vacation.

Here we are for the start of my birthday week celebrations at Horse-eyed Jacks in Blue Hills.

What a day……….a trip to the beach and then margaritas and pina coladas down in Blue Hills at Horse-Eyed Jacks. Terrific deck overlooking the water, pelicans swooping down to catch fish right infront of us and a cooling breeze blowing off the ocean.

It doesn't get any better than this........sitting sipping a drink on the deck overlooking the sea.

You simply must have a meal and drinks at Horse-Eyed Jacks on your next trip to Provo. It really is one of the best casual places to eat with simply the best view ever…………you’re right there beside the sand and water in Blue Hills which is my favourite local area.

Humpback Whale

Magnificent creature..........Diving with a humbacked whale

Magnificent creature..........Diving with a humback whale

We had three guests that went out diving today with Mickey and Jayne of Flamingo Divers. Our guests were treated to an amazing dive when a humpback whale was sighted out at West Caicos. They quietly slid into the water and stayed together while observing this magnificent creature. Zach thought it was at least 50 feet as it was much larger than the bottom of the Flamingo’s boat. A perfect day of diving! Diving the reefs and walls of the Turks and Caicos is a wonderful experience………….visibility is excellent with an abundance of marine life.

Hope we see you soon when you head our way on your next dive trip.
